Spotlight Store – Boxo Coffee

When Boxo Coffee founder, Derek Kean, moved to Hong Kong three years ago, he soon found out that good coffee was hard to find. So much so that he decided to have quality beans shipped from his favorite coffee shop back home in the States. It ended up being extremely expensive and he knew there had to be a better way. So he asked a few expats that he knew in Hong Kong if they were interested in receiving coffee deliveries and to his surprise there was indeed significant demand.

Shortly therafter he placed a larger bulk order and, sure enough, their delivery came 26 hours later. Derek thought, what if we did this on a monthly basis? And, so the core concept of Boxo Coffee was born.

Boxo was officially launched in October 2015 when he returned to the states and spent four days building the site on the Shopify platform and installing ReCharge.

The idea is simple: Each month we explore a new city and find the best local roasters. Next, we sample brews and interview their head roasters to find out which bean is knock-your-socks-off amazing. We order the winning bean and ship it to your doorstep (or office, friend’s house, mom’s basement, etc.) for you to enjoy! From the moment the beans pour from the roaster to the even better moment your coffee mug is steaming, takes us on average less than 7 days.

His customers love Boxo because they never receive the same coffee twice and get to enjoy beans from roasters who have a strong reputation within their local community. Their average subscription length is around six months and, as it turns out, 30% of subscribers buy gift subscriptions for friends. Not only that, Boxo Coffee has brought dozens of roasters into the limelight with new, passionate fans.
